SA800 filing with Tax Optimiser, at a glance

What it does
Tax Optimiser is software you use to prepare the SA800 Partnership Tax Return and the Partnership Statement, and to submit the return online to HMRC yourself.
Who files
You do. The nominated partner, or the partnership's accountant acting as agent, checks the return, makes the declaration and submits it under their own Government Gateway login. Tax Optimiser does not prepare or file returns on your behalf.
Status
Available now, in beta. SA800 filing is open to partnerships, LLPs and accountants.
Price
£10 + VAT (£12 including VAT) per partnership return, paid when you submit. There is no subscription. Accountants pay one credit per return, from £3 + VAT with credit packs.
Who it is for
Partnerships and LLPs filing their own return, and accountants and bookkeepers filing for clients.
Why software
HMRC says its own online service cannot be used to file for a partnership. A partnership return is filed online with commercial software, or on paper.
First tax year
2025-26, the year from 6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026. HMRC's deadlines for that return are 31 October 2026 on paper and 31 January 2027 online.
Pages covered
The SA800 with the Partnership Statement (short and full) and supplementary pages SA801, SA802, SA803 and SA804.

From partnership details to filed return in four steps

1

Set up the partnership

Name, UTR and the page 2 questions, which decide the supplementary pages the return needs.

2

Enter income and the balance sheet

Income, expenses, capital allowances and the balance sheet, each box carrying its SA800 number. Totals calculate themselves.

3

Share the profit

Add the partners and their shares. The totals row shows at once whether they add up to the partnership's profit.

4

Review and submit

Problems are listed with a link to the step that fixes each one. Pay £10 + VAT, submit, and keep HMRC's response on file.

SA800 Partners step showing three partners with UTR, National Insurance number, profit share percentages of 50, 30 and 20 and shares of profit that total £70,550, matching box 3.83

Three partners, 50/30/20, with the totals checked against box 3.83.

Partnership Statement

Every partner's share, checked before you file

The Partnership Statement is where partnership returns usually go wrong. Here the shares sit in one table with a totals row beneath, compared with the return's profit, loss and CIS boxes. If they do not agree, the return will not submit.

Each partner then puts their share on the partnership page of their own SA100 return.

Balance sheet

Totals that add themselves up

Assets, liabilities and the partners' capital and current accounts, each with its box number. Total boxes are calculated from the boxes above them, so the balance sheet HMRC receives always casts.

SA800 Balance Sheet step with asset boxes 3.99 to 3.104 and total assets of £85,000 calculated in box 3.105, above the liabilities boxes

The balance sheet step. Box 3.105 is calculated for you.

SA800 Review and Submit step showing the declaration with the nominated partner, provisional figures tick boxes, agent details and a summary of the partnership name, UTR and period

Review and submit: the declaration and a summary of the return.

Review and submit

Checked against HMRC's rules before it leaves

Before a return is sent it is run through HMRC's own validation rules for partnership returns, the same checks HMRC applies when it arrives. Anything that would be rejected is caught on your screen instead. You can also print the official SA800 form, filled in, for the partners to sign off.

What our customers say

5.0 out of 5 from 51 Google reviews (opens in a new tab)

I recently used Tax Optimiser for the first time to submit my accounts to Companies House and HMRC, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The platform is remarkably easy to manage, walking you through the entire process without any complex jargon. On top of that, their prices are extremely competitive. It saved me a ton of time and stress—I will definitely be using them again next year.

Zulfiqar Ali Google review

I had next to no confidence that Tax Optimiser could handle accounts submission and Corporation Tax. But I gave it a whirl… Both Companies House and HMRC have initially accepted the submissions… I previously filed on professional software and I paid about £1500. This is dirt cheap.

Robert B Google review

Excellent software. Very affordable if you're doing your own small company accounts. Links with Xero… Tax Optimiser has been a complete life saver for me.

SA800 questions, answered

The SA800 is the Partnership Tax Return. A partnership or LLP sends one to HMRC each tax year to report the business's income and show how the profit or loss is shared between the partners. Each partner then reports their own share on their personal SA100 return.

No. HMRC does not offer an online service for partnership returns. Its guidance says you cannot use its Self Assessment online service to file for a partnership, so the choice is commercial software or the paper form, and the paper deadline is three months earlier.

Any commercial software that supports the SA800 online filing service. Tax Optimiser files the SA800 at £10 + VAT per return with no subscription. It is available now, in beta.

£10 + VAT (£12 including VAT) per return, which is one partnership for one tax year, however many partners it has. It is free to prepare and you pay only when you submit. There is no subscription. Accountants can use credits instead, one credit per return, and credit packs bring the cost down to £3 + VAT a return.

Yes. SA800 filing is available now, in beta, to partnerships, LLPs and accountants. Create a free account to start your return. The first tax year supported is 2025-26 (6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026).

No. Tax Optimiser is software, not an accountancy service. You enter the figures, check the return, make the declaration and press submit, and the return goes to HMRC under your own Government Gateway login, or your accountant's agent login. The nominated partner stays responsible for the return.

For the 2025-26 tax year HMRC's deadlines are 31 October 2026 for a paper return and 31 January 2027 for a return filed online. Every partner is liable to a penalty if the partnership return is late.

The main SA800 with the trading and professional income pages, capital allowances and the balance sheet, the Partnership Statement in its short and full versions, and the supplementary pages SA801 (UK property), SA802 (foreign), SA803 (disposal of chargeable assets) and SA804 (savings, investments and other income).

Yes. You enter each partner's profit share and the Partnership Statement is filled in for every partner. The return will not submit until the shares add up to the partnership's profit or loss, so the statement and the return always agree.

Yes. Accountants file as an agent and pay with the same credits they use for company accounts and CT600 returns, one credit per partnership return. There are no per-seat fees and no annual licence.

A partnership with more than one trade in the same return, foreign property income and offshore funds on the SA802, and tax years before 2025-26.
