Adding your firm's Companies House Presenter ID to file statutory accounts

How to enter your firm's Companies House Presenter ID and Presenter Authentication in Tax Optimiser, and how to apply for them if you don't have them yet.

Adding a Presenter ID as an accountant firm

To file statutory accounts directly with Companies House, your firm needs to add its presenter credentials in Tax Optimiser. These credentials authorise the software to submit filings on the firm's behalf.

Where to enter the details

  1. From the left-hand menu, go to Firm Settings » Firm.
  2. Open the Companies House tab.
  3. Enter your Presenter ID.
  4. Enter your Presenter Authentication (the presenter authentication code).
  5. Save your changes.

Don't confuse the credentials

Heads up — the Presenter ID and Presenter Authentication are not the same as the company authentication code that Companies House issues to each company. They are separate credentials, so make sure you enter the presenter details here, not a company authentication code.

Presenter credentials authorise your firm's software to file; the company authentication code authorises filings for a specific company.

If you don't have a Presenter ID

You'll need to apply for one before you can file. The application is free: Apply to file with Companies House using software.

Filing for your own company?

This article is for accountant firms. If you file your own company's accounts and are not managed by a firm, the presenter details go on the organisation instead: see Getting a Companies House presenter ID and adding it to your organisation.

The short version

Adding your firm's Companies House Presenter ID to file statutory accounts — in brief

To file statutory accounts with Companies House from Tax Optimiser, add your firm's Presenter ID and Presenter Authentication under Firm Settings > Firm > Companies House. Don't confuse the Presenter Authentication with a company authentication code: they are separate credentials. If you don't have a Presenter ID yet, apply for one on GOV.UK.
